Correct Answer
Making the next generation of solar cells

And here's something for you to take back

Perovskite is a calcium titanium oxide mineral.

What makes this mineral interesting is that it is a semiconductor - a material that has specific electrical properties enabling it to generate electricity from sources such as sunlight. Owing to this property, extensive research is being undertaken to use perovskite as a key raw material to make the next generation solar cells.

Some of the main advantages of perovskite are that its manufacturing is easier and possibly less chemical intensive; these cells can could also be used to photovoltaic surfaces making these electricity generators - doing this with silicon is difficult, though thin film solar tech explored it using amorphous silicon. The ability to spray perovskite as a liquid coating can help it to be made and used at high volumes, thus also lowering costs.

Perovskites are currently (2023) still not out of the lab completely, but they sure show promise.
