Leaked hydrogen doesn’t trap heat directly, the way CO2 does. Instead, when leaked it leads to chemical reactions that can result in increased concentrations of methane and water vapour, both greenhouse gases,thus acting as an indirect greenhouse gas.

Though water vapour cycles out quickly, methane is a powerful greenhouse gas. While methane too cycles out of the atmosphere far faster than carbon dioxide, which lingers for centuries, it can do more damage than CO2 in the short term.
