Correct Answer
Millets
Interestingly, India is supposed to have played a good part in getting this declaration.
India accounts for a fifth of the world’s millets production. Millets are more nutritious compared to rice - in both fiber and proteins.
Millets, in addition, require less inputs - water, pesticides and fertilizers - compared to rice.
Appears like millets should be a boon to India, and makes one wonder why the country isn't doing more of millets.
Adding to this wonder is the fact that before the Green Revolution (which started in the 1960s), millets made up around 40 percent of all cultivated grains, contributing more than wheat and rice. However, since the revolution, the production of rice has doubled and wheat production has tripled.
Food for thought, for sure!
